Complete Jai Ganesh Aarti with lyrics in Hindi and English translation

Jai Ganesh Aarti

The Jai Ganesh Aarti is one of the most beloved devotional songs in Hindu worship. It is sung at the beginning of all auspicious occasions and during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and son of Shiva and Parvati, is invoked first before any major undertaking.

Hindi (Devanagari)

English Translation (Meaning)

Victory to Ganesha, Victory to Ganesha, Victory to Ganesha, O Lord!

Whose mother is Parvati, and whose father is Mahadeva (Shiva).

O compassionate one-tusked Lord, bearer of four arms,

Whose forehead is adorned with sindoor (vermilion), who rides upon a mouse.

Betel leaves are offered, flowers are offered, and fruits are placed before you,

Offerings of laddus (sweet balls) are made, and the saints perform your service.

You give eyes to the blind, You restore the bodies of lepers,

You give sons to the childless, and wealth to the poor.

'Sur' Shyam has come to your shelter, make his service fruitful,

Whose mother is Parvati and father is Mahadeva.

Protect the honor of the downtrodden, O son of Shambhu (Shiva),

Fulfill all desires; I am devoted entirely to You.

Significance of Ganesha Aarti

Lord Ganesha (also called Ganapati, Vighnaharta, Vinayaka) is the first among gods to be worshipped. He is depicted with an elephant head symbolizing wisdom and discrimination, a single tusk representing one-pointedness, and a pot belly signifying the cosmos. His vehicle, the mouse, represents the ego that must be controlled and ridden.

Best time to sing: This aarti is traditionally sung at dawn and dusk during Ganesh puja. During Ganesh Chaturthi (August–September), it is sung multiple times daily over ten days.

How to perform: Light a ghee or oil lamp (diya), wave it in a circular motion before the image or idol of Ganesha, and sing the aarti while ringing a bell. After the aarti, distribute prasad (usually modak or laddoo).
