Choghadiya (चौघड़िया) is an ancient Vedic timekeeping system that divides each day and night into 8 equal periods of approximately 90 minutes. Each period is governed by one of 7 planets and classified as auspicious or inauspicious for starting new activities.
For Coimbatore, the timings are calculated based on the city's coordinates (Lat 11.0168°, Lon 76.9558°) and the local sunrise and sunset times. The day Choghadiya runs from sunrise to sunset, and the night Choghadiya runs from sunset to the next sunrise.
Auspicious Choghadiyas: Amrit (best), Labh (gains), Shubh (auspicious), Char (travel) — ideal for starting new ventures, travel, business, and important work.
Inauspicious Choghadiyas: Rog (illness), Kaal (inauspicious), Udveg (anxiety) — avoid starting new work during these periods.
